AMERICUS — Betty Grace Smith, age 87, of Americus, died Saturday, April 21, 2018, at her residence. A native of Oglethorpe, she was born June 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Leonard and Berta Etheridge. Mrs. Smith, wife of the late Dan A. Smith, was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. After retiring from Manhattan Shirt Co., she enjoyed working with the Red Cross. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Golden officiating. The family was to receive friends an hour prior to the service from 10 until 11 a.m., and at other times the family residence. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers include grandsons and great-grandsons. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 846 Lane Store Road, Americus GA  31709 or to Phoebe Sumter Hospice, P.O. Box 1434, Americus GA  31709.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Brenda and Jeff Cavender of Americus and Beth Denney of Vidalia; two sons and daughter-in-law, Allen and Peggy Smith of Americus and Leonard Smith of Americus; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jack Bellew of Oglethorpe; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Mary Jane Etheridge of Oglethorpe; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Cavender, Dee Studdard (Todd), Portia Anderson (David), Renee Batay (Jesse), Will Denney (Trixie), Chad Smith (Blake), Wes Smith (Angie); thirteen great grandchildren, Kayleigh Vickers (Cody), Chandler Studdard, Eva Grace Studdard, Heather Anderson, David Anderson, Jr., Autumn Batay, Maura Batay, Lula-Grace Batay, Grace Smith, Bradley Smith, Henry Smith, Ellie Smith and Harry Smith; and one great-great-grandchild, Carson Vickers. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Billy Denney and a brother, C.D. Etheridge.
