Sumter Cycling presenting exciting events during May

AMERICUS – Being that May is Bicycle Safety Month, Sumter Cycling has some exciting upcoming events during the month of May.
It all begins Friday, May 18, with Bike To Work. Sumter Cycling is encouraging as many people as possible to bike to work on that day. Be sure to stop by the energizing station on the front lawn of the Russell Thomas Jr. Public Safety Building. There riders will receive free morning snacks and coffee.
Later that day, riders will have the opportunity to ride their bikes with Mayor Barry Blount. Riders must meet at the main circle on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University at 12 p.m. Riders will ride with not only with Mayor Blount, but with GSW faculty, staff and students. Riders will also ride with Sumter Cycling members and other cycling enthusiasts.
Riders will leave as a group and ride to Rylander Park. Once at the park, free pizza will be served.
Later that day, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Safe Kids of Columbus will present a bicycle rodeo at Lenny’s Market, located at 110 North Hampton Street in Americus. This a fun event for the entire family. The purpose of the rodeo is to review bicycle handling safety and proper fitting of the bike helmets. A free bicycle helmet will be given to all children who participate.
