ELLAVILLE — Mrs. Janet Marie Owens Long, 55, of Americus, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, in the chapel of Watson-Giddens Funeral Home with the Rev. William Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donnie Bryan, Chris Toomey, Richard Morgan, Don Wall, Ken Nobles and Chance Elliott. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Dillard, Ken Singleton, Luke Singleton, Joseph Daniel, Wendell Poole and Claude Frazier. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Long was born Aug. 18, 1962, in Americus, Ga., to Buddy and Gloria L. Owens. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  Mrs. Long was a loving wife who loved her family and dog, Ruger.  Janet enjoyed quilting and loved being in the sun and wind preparing crop land in her favorite 4620 John Deere tractor, that she found to be the best therapy to relax and enjoy life. Mrs. Long started as a volunteer in 1978, at Sumter Regional Hospital, then worked as a ward clerk, became a LPN, and then an RN. She worked in case management at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Owens.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Long of Americus, Ga.; by her mother and father, Buddy and Gloria L. Owens of Americus, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Teresa Owens of Ellaville, Ga.; sister, Linda Owens of Andersonville, Ga.; and mother- and father-in-law, John and Anna Long of Franklin, N.C.  Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Hannah Owens, Jennifer Owens Raines, Jessica Owens, Jamie Owens, Joni Owens, John Thomas Owens; special friend, Beth Worthington, and many other friends and coworkers.
