AMERICUS — The Sumter County Chamber of Commerce has announced that the August 2018 “Business of the Month” is The Staffing People. The Small Business of the Month program is designed to spotlight a member business each month that does an exceptional job of serving its customers and the community. John Stovall, chair of the Business Development Division, said, “Small businesses are a vital part of our community and we want to be able to recognize them for their contributions. We feel this program can help shine a light on a successful business as well as commend them for their commitment to the Chamber and the community.”
Mike Yerby, owner and operator of The Staffing People, began 17 years ago having a business background in management and human resources. Yerby and his staff have been helping Americus residents find jobs that match their needs ever since.
The Staffing People is not an average staffing company. Committed to placing people in the jobs for which they are best fit, the company aims for more than just filling positions.
Yerby said his goal is to keep both the applicants and the businesses happy. “We’re going to do everything we can to put good people to work in a place where they feel comfortable,” he said. “We’re here to help and that’s what we do.”
Yerby opened The Staffing People after working in retail for most of his life. After opening his own business, he discovered he had more time to do what he loves — sing in church and spend time with his family.
Yerby believes that opening his own business was God’s plan for his life. “Through the good times and the bad, I’ve never once thought God would let me down,” he said. “I’m doing the best I can with what I’ve got.”
It is largely because of these beliefs that The Staffing People has seen so much success. Instead of placing people in jobs that may or may not work for them, the business screens each employee to match their skillset with each company’s requirements.
The purpose of the Business Development Division is to establish a platform for innovative thinking and policy education to support entrepreneurial and business growth; and to provide increased exposure and opportunity through training, mentoring and networking.
