Montena H. Fish

AMERICUS — Funeral services for Cpl. Montena Hollis Fish will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Friendship Baptist Church. Bishop Melvin McCluster will officiate and burial will follow in the Eastview Cemetery. The remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the services.

Cpl. Montena Hollis Fish was born on Sept. 13, 1948, in Sumter County, Georgia, to the parentage of the late Mr. Robert Hollis and Mrs. Frankie Ball Hollis, who survives. She was a graduate of Sumter County High School Class of 1966. She later attended Fort Valley State College. In 1973, she began her career with the Americus Police Department, retiring as a detective in 2000. She then began a career with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. In both law enforcement capacities, she served as a D.A.R.E. officer. Montena was affectionately known to many as the “DARE Lady” or “Mama Fish.”

In addition to her mother, she leaves to cherish her memories: two siblings, Mr. Willis J. (Pat) Hollis, Ms. Sherra Faye Kendrick; a stepsister, Mrs. Dorothy (Jesse) Perkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends also survive.
