New Sumter Players’ season opens Oct. 4

AMERICUS — Sumter Players, Inc. will launch its 2018-2019 season Oct. 4 on the Rylander Theater stage with a performance bursting with ‘90s pop culture, fantasy role-play, and witty high school comedy. Directed by Kasie Ware and featuring Hannah Pendergrass in the lead role, She Kills Monsters is a female-driven performance that takes the audience on a journey of discovery and adventure.
She Kills Monsters is a dramatic-comedy that tells the story of Agnes Evans (Pendergrass) as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly (Alexandra Joiner). When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into the action-packed imaginary world of fantasy role-playing games that was Tilly’s refuge, complete with ‘90s pop culture, homicidal fairies and nasty ogres.
She Kills Monsters was written by acclaimed young playwright, Qui Nguyen. Content may not be suitable for children under 14.
Shows are at 8 p.m. Oct. 4, 5, and 6, and at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 7.
