GSW Women’s Basketball picked to finish 10th in PBC Preseason Poll

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University Women’s Basketball Team was voted to finish 10th out of 12 teams in the Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches’ poll.

The Lady Hurricanes received 30 points, which placed them above Augusta State (27) and Young Harris (18).

North Georgia claimed all 11 first-place votes with 121 points. The Lady Nighthawks are considered to be the top team in the PBC. Columbus State was picked to finish second with 103 points and Lander University was voted to finish in third place (93).

With ten new additions, including seven freshmen and three transfer student-athletes, the Lady Hurricanes are expected to have a much better season than last year. GSW will be led by forward Mariya Trimble. Trimble averaged 10.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season.

The Lady Hurricanes open their season on Friday evening, November 9, in St. Augustine, FL. They will be competing in the Southeast Region Crossover hosted by Flagler University. Their first opponent will be Limestone College from Gaffney, SC. Tip-off for the Limestone game will be at 7:30 p.m. Their next game will be on Saturday afternoon, November 10, against Lincoln Memorial University from Harrogate, TN. Tip-off for that game is set for 2 p.m.
