Bobby Joe McDaniel, 85, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018. He was born in Paragould on June 20, 1933, to Jim and Edith McDaniel. He was a 1951 graduate of Paragould High School and a 1955 graduate of Hendrix College, where he was a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and running track. He went on to receive a master’s degree from Louisiana Tech. Among his many jobs, he worked for the U.S. Game & Fish Commission, owned McDaniel Furniture, sold insurance, taught school, and drove a school bus for many years. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brothers, Jim McDaniel of Pocahontas, Arkansas; and Jack McDaniel of Kennett, Missouri. “Paps,” as he was affectionately known to his grandchildren, leaves behind his wife Sherry, his children Sylvia Roland (husband Donnie) of Americus, Georgia; Joseph “Bebo” (fiancée Noelle Cox) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Chris (wife Andrea) of Peachtree City, Georgia. Also surviving are his six grandchildren: Sara Hoke DeStefano (husband Kevin) of Conway; Joseph Hoke of Harrison; Ashley McDaniel of Panama City, Florida; and Payton, Addison, and Jackson Claire of Peachtree City, Georgia. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at Paragould First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Fleming officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paragould First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Witt House Food Pantry.
