AMERICUS — Cafeteria managers from Sumter County Schools represented the local schools at the GSNA (Georgia School Nutrition Association) National School Lunch Week Kick-Off Luncheon on Sept. 27. The luncheon and Education Public Relations Seminar are held each year in Macon. They are designed to help school systems promote their local school nutrition programs and educate students, parents, school staff, and the community about their programs and passion for feeding hungry children. Sumter County School nutrition program staff assisted School Nutrition director, Martha Harvey in receiving several awards. The awards are as follows:
• USDA Georgia Best Practice Award for Farm to School Program
• USDA Georgia Best Practice Award for Program Integrity (Incentive Salary Program for School Nutrition Staff)
• USDA Southeastern Region Best Practice Award for Program Integrity (Incentive Salary Program for School Nutrition Staff)
Many plans and new ideas are being developed for school nutrition in the Sumter County Schools. With the support and assistance from Superintendent Torrance Choates and the Sumter County Board of Education, the school nutrition program is expected to increase participation and student satisfaction.
