ROCHELLE — Marvin C. Dix, age 97 of Abbeville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, in the Northside Villa in Rochelle, Georgia.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 in the Abbeville First Baptist Church. The Rev. Chuck Taylor officiated. Interment was in the family plot at Mount Zion Cemetery in Abbeville, Ga.
Mr. Dix was born on April 23, 1921, to the late Albert J. Dix and Kate Evans Dix. He was a rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 43 years. He was a member and Deacon of the Abbeville First Baptist Church, member of the Abbeville Lions Club, and the Wilcox County Farm Bureau. He was a former member of the Western Light Masonic Lodge #272, and the Shriners.
Mr. Dix attended Mercer University and Georgia Military College.
He served his country with honor in the Air Force during World War II. He was top gunner on a B29 in the Pacific Theater, and earned the distinguished Flying Cross. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte “Muddy” Jenkins Dix, and sisters Alberta Dix Anderson and Joe Ann Dix Barley.
Survivors include daughter Glenda Kate Dix Cason of Americus; sister Daisy Moody of Jesup; two grandchildren Chad and Katie Cason; and three great-great-grandchildren Austin, Chance, and Caden Cason.
Visitation was held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 in the Dix Farm Home, 3977 Ga. Highway 129 South, Abbeville GA 31001. The family will receive flowers or donations to be made to the Abbeville First Baptist Church Memorial Fund or the Kent Dozier Memorial Scholarship Fund.
