AMERICUS — The Sumter County Chamber of Commerce has announced the December “Business of the Month” is Gyro City Mediterranean Grill. The Business of the Month program is designed to spotlight a member business each month that does an exceptional job of serving its customers and the community. John Stovall, chair of the Business Development Division, said, “Small businesses are a vital part of our community and we want to be able to recognize them for their contributions. We feel this program can help shine a light on successful businesses as well as commend them for their commitment to the Chamber and the community.”
Gyro City Mediterranean Grill’s owner Wael Zahrouni was born in Tunis, Tunisia, but grew up in Dubai. At age 18, he moved to the United States. He moved to Americus-Sumter County at the age of 27 to study aviation at South Georgia Technical College. He also attended Darton College, but soon began working in his uncle’s furniture business, Americus Bargains and Treasures.
Zahrouni and his “brother from a different mother,” Hamza Idries, began Gyro City Mediterranean Grill in October 2017, at 116 W. Lamar St. They found not only success in business but love for Americus as well. The restaurant is a family place which serves a diverse menu, specializing in Mediterranean cuisine.
