Southland Raiders pull out hard-fought win at Valwood

VALDOSTA – The Southland Raiders went down to Valdosta on Friday, January 4, and pulled out a hard-fought 46-43 victory over the Valwood Valiants in an important Region 3-AAA contest.

Chandler Studdard led the Raiders in scoring with 13 points and Owen Exley had seven.

“It was an excellent way to start the region season with a win on the road,” Southland head coach Rundy Foster said. “That was the most important game last week.”

The first half was an evenly-played half, with the Valiants leading 20-19 at halftime. The Raiders were able to outscore Valwood 10-5 in the third quarter to take a 29-25 lead at the start of the final eight minutes.

The final quarter was a hotly-contested quarter, but the Raiders were able to get out of Valdosta with a 46-43 victory.

The Valiants had two players in double-figures. Allen Harris and Jaheim James each scored 10 points. Harris had a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds.

The Raiders have two important Region 3-AAA games coming up. On Friday, January 11, the Raiders will host Tiftarea Academy at 8 p.m. They will then head down to Albany on Saturday, January 12, to take on the Knights of Deerfield-Windsor. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
