Lady Jets’ Fatou Pouye named GCAA Division 1 Player of the Week

AMERICUS – Fatou Pouye, a sophomore forward on the South Georgia Technical College women’s basketball team, was selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division 1 women’s Player of the Week for her performance on the court for the first week of January 2019.

This is the third time this season that Pouye has been selected for this honor and the fourth time that a Lady Jets player has been highlighted for outstanding play on the court for the 2018-2019 season.

A native of Kaolack, Senegal, Pouye was first selected as the Player of the Week for the week of November 12. She shared the honor that week with Sharai Lay of Georgia Highlands College. Pouye was selected again for the week of November 19.

Pouye was the first women’s basketball player selected as the Player of the Week in Division 1 for 2019. She averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, 2.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in three wins for the Lady Jets.

Pouye’s teammate, Bigue Sarr, was the other SGTC player to be selected as the GCAA Division 1 women’s basketball Player of the Week. Sarr earned the honor for her performance on Monday, December 17, 2018.

The Lady Jets are currently at the top of the GCAA Division 1 standings with a 9-0 conference record and an overall record of 17-2.
