MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — Bill Greene, “Buddy,” to his family and affectionately called Mr. Bill by those who knew him, age 85, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15 following a brief illness. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, from the Dial-Murray Funeral Home Chapel in Moncks Corner with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. Entombment will be at Plantation Memorial Gardens in Moncks Corner. The Rev. Dr. Bobby Eubanks of Ridge Baptist Church will be officiating.

Bill was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Sumter County, Ga., to the late William L. Greene Sr. and Hazel Bridges Greene. He was raised on Greene’s Dairy Farm in Americus, Ga., and often spoke of delivering milk with his Dad before going to school. He attended New Era Elementary School, Americus High School, Bullis Prep School in Silver Spring, Md., and graduated Georgia Tech. He was a chemist and retired in 1997.

He was a faithful and long-time member of the United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher and in many leadership roles in the church. He was recently attending First Baptist Church of Jedburg. Bill was a member of General Ellison Capers Camp #1212 of Sons of Confederate Veterans. Bill loved Kiwanis and won many local and district awards, including the Legion of Honor Award by the Summerville and Moncks Corner Kiwanis Clubs for 50 years of Kiwanis Club membership. He was very active in the Read a Book and Terrific Kid programs and the annual golf tournaments. and was recognized several times as Distinguished or Outstanding Kiwanian of the Year. Bill was an avid golfer. He was on his high school and college golf teams and after age 70, his goal was always to shoot his age — he usually made it! He attained three holes in one, all after age 65. Over the years, his hobbies were astronomy, photography, computers, square dancing, and bird watching.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years: Cheyanne Cantey Greene; two daughters, Katherine Greene of Fremont, Calif., and Melissa Wood of Ulster Park, N.Y.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Grace Greene Pace of Perry, Ga., and Julia Greene (Leon) Neel of Thomasville; two brothers, Jimmy (Carey) Greene and David Allen (Julie) Greene, both of Americus, Ga.; and special friends, Bobby Eubanks, Joe Still, Larry Dangerfield, and Ralph Moore. He was preceded in death by his son, William L. “Tracy” Greene III; a sister and brother-in-law: Mildred Greene (Pete) McMillon of Tonganoxie, Kansas, a brother: Dr. Richard Greene of Marietta, Ga., a brother-in-law: Stephen Pace II of Perry, Ga., and his beloved best friend, Molly. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the church or organization of their choice and would like to thank the personnel of Trident Hospital of North Charleston for their excellent care and loving concern during his hospitalization.
