• Firefighters responded to 27 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Sun Valley Drive which was activated by burning food while cooking.
• Firefighters responded to a report of smoke behind a residence on Hancock Drive. They found a burning trash pile. They advised the occupant of the city’s no-burn policy.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Cherokee Street. They found trash burning next to a vehicle; they extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Austin Urethane, 122 Crisp Drive as automatic aid to Sumter County Fire & Rescue. It was a false alarm due to a faulty water flow detector.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the Best Western Windsor Hotel, 125 W. Lamar St. It was determined that dust triggered the alarm; there was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to East Jefferson Street to a natural gas line having been struck by a communications/utility company. The city gas department was already on site attempting to shut off the gas.
• Firefighters responded to an Elliott Street to a report of a possible structure fire. Light smoke was visible on one side of the residence. The fire, which the occupant ha extinguished it, was the result of a pot left on the stove. Fire personnel cut off the power to the stove and the main breaker, and ventilated the structure.
• Firefighters responded to responded to woods behind Mike’s Party Center, 400 Tripp St., to a report of a brush fire. They extinguished the small brush fire which was caused, according to store employees, by two juveniles playing with matches.
