AMERICUS — As part of a six-phase, multimillion-dollar initiative, Magnolia Manor recently began renovating the Americus Nursing Center. Contractors completed construction on the new Mattie H. Marshall Memory Care Center last summer, marking the end of Phase One of the project.
Magnolia Manor has continued its partnership with the contractors who built the new Mattie H. Marshall Memory Care Center. The Clark Nexsen architectural firm of Macon designed the renovated space. The Piedmont Construction Group, also of Macon, is in charge of construction, which is expected to last 32 months.
Phase two began in December with Nursing Center dementia care residents moving from Unit 4 to the space that served as the old Mattie H. Marshall Center. This arrangement will minimize disruptions in daily living that protracted construction in their living space may cause. Once Phase Two is complete, dementia care residents will move back into the freshly renovated Unit 4.
Then, contractors will move to Phase Three of the project — renovations to the old Mattie H. Marshall Memory Care Center, converting it into a new, state-of-the-art rehabilitation center. These renovations will include a new drive-through portico providing physical therapy patients with more efficient access to and from the building.
Phases Four through Six will see extensive renovations to the entire Nursing Center building. Those renovations will feature a total revamp of the main entrance, complete with a hostess and reception area. Technology such as keyless entry and an updated nurse call system will be installed to increase security. An upgraded emergency back-up generator and new fire alarm system will be installed as well. The interior will be remodeled with new walls, flooring, and lighting. The entire building will receive a new roof. Contractors will incorporate a brand-new heating and air conditioning system, as well as plumbing equipped with tankless water heaters to provide an endless supply of hot water.
Many of the semi-private rooms will be transformed into private rooms with private baths. A select number of semi-private rooms will remain an option to maintain affordability for residents requiring this level of care.
Magnolia Manor will also install new exterior signage. These improvements will allow for easier navigation throughout the entire campus.
