Schley County’s Bivins and Windham combine for no-hitter in win over Shaw

ELLAVILLE – The Schley County Wildcat baseball team scored 11 runs in the second inning to begin the 2019 season with a 16-1 win over the Shaw Raiders on Wednesday, February 13, at Schley County High School.

The big inning started when SC’s Dakota Albriton put the ball in play and reached on an error. Lorne Barineau, Garrett Peavy, Luke Renfroe and Logan Wurtz all reached first base. Dylan Windham also drew a walk. This resulted in the Wildcats scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Wildcats were able to take advantage of five errors committed by the Raiders.

Albritton and Wurtz both drove in three RBIs. Wurtz went 2-for-2 in the game and scored two runs. Albritton went 1-for-2 with a walk and scored a run.

Trent Bivins and Dylan Windham combined to pitch a no-hitter against the Raiders. Bivins started the game and pitched two innings. He struck out four batters and walked none. Windham came on in relief and continued to keep the Raiders hitless. He struck out three Raiders and walked two.

Joseph Clendinen started the game for Shaw. He pitched 1.2 innings and gave up seven runs on one hit. The major reason for the seven runs given up was the six walks given up by Clendinen. He also struck out two Schley County hitters.

The Wildcats will try to continue their winning ways when they travel to Greenville, GA to take on Region 4-A opponent Greenville. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
