AMERICUS — Gene Bailey Wood Butler, age 91, of Americus, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1927 in Cairo, Georgia, to the late Anne Bailey Wood and the late Ben Lee Wood.

She was married to Frank Logan Butler Jr. for 54 years until his death in 2003.

She is survived by her son Frank Logan Butler III and wife Patricia Miller Butler of Macon daughter Anne Butler Walton and husband James Clarence Walton of Columbus; and daughter Katherine Butler Hill and husband Raymond Dunlap Hill Jr., of Atlanta. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Joel Orba Wooten and wife Ellen Elizabeth Spiller and their children Everett Joel Wooten and Iris Elizabeth Wooten, all of Columbia, S.C.; Katherine Bailey Wooten of Atlanta; Frank Logan Wooten and wife Zelie Davis Wooten and their daughter Margaret Katherine Wooten, all of Decatur; Betsy Wood Butler of Nashville, Tenn.; Frank Logan Butler IV and wife Alexandra Reedy Butler of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; Raymond Dunlap Hill III of Atlanta and Charles Butler Hill of Philadelphia, Pa.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Feb. 22, 2019, at Oak Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Dupree will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at the residence of Mrs. Butler. The family requests memorial contributions be made to a charity of choice.
