Peggy Juanita Kitchens, age 83, died on Feb. 23, 2019, at her residence, surrounded by family. Born April 14, 1935, to the late Jessie Carr King Sr. and Annie Maude Sanders King, she recently retired from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office after 18 years of employment as a receptionist. Mrs. Kitchens was of Methodist faith and loved cooking, baking, bird watching, wildlife, and spending time with her family.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James Womack officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Bird Conservancy, P.O. Box 249, The Plains VA 20198 or abcbird.org or a charity of choice.

The staff of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband, J.R. Harden of Andersonville; three daughters and son-in-law, Sebie Lee of Americus, Glenda Nieto of Americus and Terri and Danny Maxwell of Americus, Kaye Lobzurn (Gary), Penny McLeod; two sisters and brother-in-law, Sara Chapa of San Antonio, Texas, and Gloria and John Thigpen of Warner Robins; six grandchildren, Tiffany and Casey Battle, Kit and Amy Kitchens, Dylan Lee, Brody Lee, Cruz Nieto, and Miles and Taylor Maxwell; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Nieto, and Adaline Kate Kitchens. She was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Wayne Kitchens, a sister, Mildred Beck, and two brothers, Jessie Carr King Jr. and Richard Byrd King.
