AMERICUS — James Bruce Summerford Sr., 75, of Leslie, died Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus. A native of Albany, he was born Nov. 9, 1943, to the late J.B. Summerford and Bonceil Blackstock Summerford. He was a member of Albany Church of Christ and a United States Air Force veteran. He worked as a parts manager for Auto Zone, and loved to fish.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2019, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Rita Summerford of Leslie; two sons: Bruce Summerford Jr. of Albany and Chad Summerford of Charlotte, N.C.; and two stepsons: Shawn Sharp of Leslie and Shane Sharp of Cobb. Also surviving are a sister, Juanita Long of Albany; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Joy Summerford of Conyers; four grandchildren: Hunter Summerford, Tyler Sharp, Ridge Sharp, and Lizzy Sharp; and a great-grandchild, Bryson Sharp.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
