(March 14-19)
• Firefighters responded to 19 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to the Municipal Building, 128 Forsyth St., to a report of someone trapped in an elevator. They were cancelled en route.
• Firefighters responded, as mutual aid with Sumter County Fire & Rescue, to a report of a fire on Pecan Terrace. They were cancelled en route.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Lynnview Drive. The alarm was activated by a pot left on the stove; there was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Ridge Street. It was accidentally activated by a child.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a dumpster fire on Bill Cross Street. They found a wheeled dumpster completely burned. The occupant told them she didn’t see any fire but smelled smoke before she walked out and saw that her trash can had smoldered to the ground. She said earlier that day she had cleaned out her charcoal and dumped it in the contents of her trash.
• Firefighters responded to as automatic aid to Sumter County Fire & Rescue, to Sandstone Drive, to a report of arcing electrical equipment. Upon arrival, they were no longer needed.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Hampton Street which was activated by burned bread.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Hudson Street.
• Firefighters responded to Academy Street to a report of a gas odor. Nothing was found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Knollwood Drive. No hazards were found.
