The 31st annual Miss SAR (Southland Academy Raider) pageant was held March 22. Nine contestants competed in private interview, sportswear, fitness wear, and evening gown. Capturing the title of Miss SAR 2019 and the winner of the evening gown award was Lydia Anne Love, a freshman and daughter of Jason and Angie Love of Americus. First runner-up and winner of the Bett Glover Womack Interview Award and Miss Congeniality was junior, Hannah Mitchell, daughter of Jason and Holly Mitchell of Plains. Junior, Maddy Copeland, daughter of Melanie Copeland of Americus, was named second runner-up. Delaney Comer, a freshman and daughter of Brandon and Kim Comer of Americus, was named as the people’s choice winner. Each year the pageant is held to raise scholarship money for Southland Academy’s Thomas A. Greene and Madeline Anne Wildes scholarship fund. The newly crowned queen designated a charity of her choice for which a donation is made by the Beta Club. Lydia Anne Love chose the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) as her charity because of her personal connection with the organization. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was in the seventh grade.
