Americus Fire & Emergency Services

(March 27-April 2)
• Firefighters responded to 34 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a report of heavy smoke in the area of East Forsyth Street. They determined it to be smoke inversion from a controlled burn enveloping the area,
• Firefighters responded to Sharon Circle to a report of heavy smoke in the area. They were unable to locate the source of the smoke.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Hampton Street which was found to have been activated by burned good. They ventilated the structure.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Cuckoo BBQ and More, 1200 Southerfield Road. The owner said cooking had activated the alarm.
• Firefighters responded to Peachtree Street to a power line down. They found that a large tree had fallen on the roadway, breaking a power line and obstructing traffic. They, along with city public works, removed the large portions of the tree from the road.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Prince Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters were dispatched to provide automatic aid to Sumter County Fire & Rescue to Sunset Park Drive, but were cancelled enroute.
• Firefighters responded to a Winchester Street to a report of a grass fire, which they extinguished.
• Firefighters responded to Palm Court to a report of a gas odor. No hazards were found and the scene was turned over to the city gas department.
• Firefighters responded to a pickup truck fire on Cypress Drive. They extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a possible structure fire at Quick Recovery, 1043 E. Forsyth St. The occupant pointed out a shorted-out surge protector. They found that water had seeped into the surge protector which was unplugged and removed. No other hazards were found.

• Firefighters responded to a grass fire close to a structure on Patton Drive. They extinguished it.
