LAWRENCEVILLE — Joyce Spence Hobbs, 61, of Lawrenceville, died Saturday, May 11, 2019, at her home. She was born Jan. 9, 1958 in Fort Jackson, S.C., to Martha Preskitt Spence and the late Maj. (retired) Naven Donald Spence.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 14 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus with the Rev. Richard Taylor officiating.
She grew up in Americus and graduated from Americus High School, and later earned a nursing degree from South Georgia Technical College. She worked for over 25 years for Davita Dialysis and was the facility administrator at the Stockbridge location.
Survivors include her husband, John Hobbs, of Lawrenceville; mother, Martha Spence of Americus; a son, E6 SSGT Steven Melvin and his companion E6 SSGT Betsy Mayorga of Fort Campbell, Ky.; and a grandson, Leylan Melvin. Also surviving are her step daughters: Theresa Smith and Kathryn Sarver of Lawrenceville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Danny Andrews of Montezuma, and Debra and Buck Scott of Americus; a brother and sister-in-law, Dickie and Merri Spence of Americus; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Russell, and her husband Harry of Milledgeville.
