Americus resident earns degree from WGU
SALT LAKE CITY — Lakesha Jones of Americus has earned her bachelor of science, health information management degree from Western Governors University (WGU). The online, nonprofit university held its 67th (Austin, Texas), 68th (Washington, D.C.), 69th (Indianapolis, Indiana), and 70th (Orlando, Florida) commencement ceremonies last fall and earlier this year to celebrate the recent graduation of nearly 22,000 students from across the country.

LENEXA, Kansas — Donna Bailey of Andersonville graduated with an online associate of science degree in medical coding and billing from Grantham University, a 100 percent online university.

Chelsea Rand receives 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award in chemistry at GSW
AMERICUS — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) student Chelsea Rand, of Montezuma, was recognized for Outstanding Achievement in the Chemistry Curriculum at GSW’s 2019 Student Recognition Ceremony on April 12 in the Marshall Student Center.
This award is given to a student graduating with a bachelor degree in Chemistry who shows exceptional academic performance within the chemistry curriculum. Students are nominated and voted on by the chemistry faculty.

Alexander Bailey named first place winner in 2019 Dolores Capitan Writing Awards at GSW
AMERICUS — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) student Alexander Bailey, of Americus, was named the first-place winner in Academic Writing for the Delores Capitan Writing Award at GSW’s 2019 Student Recognition Ceremony on April 12 in the Marshall Student Center.
These awards are given by Dr. William H. Capitan, the university’s eighth president, to honor his late wife’s love of writing and to foster writing across the curriculum.

Lyquita Sampson receives 2019 Leadership in Exercise Science Award at GSW
AMERICUS — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) student Lyquita Sampson, of Americus, received the Leadership in Exercise Science Award at GSW’s 2019 Student Recognition Ceremony on April 12 in the Marshall Student Center.
This award recognizes majors who demonstrate leadership qualities in service to the department of Exercise Science and Wellness and the campus community throughout their time at GSW.
