Ellaville shone with red, white, and blue

If you didn’t come to Ellaville last week or didn’t ride through town, you really missed a special sight. American flags were placed around the City Park downtown as well as the City Square.

Thomas Edwin Wall Post 191 American Legion have been putting out the flags on special holidays such as the 4th of July. The flags are placed in memory of veterans who were members of the local Legion.

Schley, Marion county 4-H’ers attend Camp Wahsega
Schley and Marion county 4-H’ers attended a fantastic week of camp from June 24-28 at Camp Wahsega near Dahlonega in the North Georgia mountains. The campers had a fun-packed schedule of educational activities such as stream ecology, herpetology, and forest ecology where they hiked and learned about different trees and wildlife in the forest.

In archery classes, they also had the opportunity to learn about the gear and shooting techniques using a bow and arrows.

They had survival classes in which they built a structure from branches to get out of the weather.

There were many fun activities also such as the swimming in the pond. sliding down water falls, high ropes that included the zip line and the Flying Squirrel. They also had the pleasure of tubing down the river into a cool mountain stream. There was also a climbing wall where you would ring the bell when you reached the top.

There were also arts and crafts and the 4-H Dance.

These are just a few highlights of the many activities the 4-H’ers had the opportunity to participate in during the week.

Campers that attended from Schley County were Alyssa Wills, Addison Ammons, Evan Barfield, Chelci Woods, Abbie Grace Check, Harper Bishop, Carlee Zanders, Emily Wilder, Tillery Tyler, Samantha Wright, Andrew Wally, Deddrick Thornton, Dixie Stowe, Cass Cotton, Tyler Davis, Brody Elliott, A.J. Latimer, Gabe Powell, Blu Shiver, Liam Snider, and Markus Sowell.

Attending as adult leaders for Schley County were Brenda Welch, Schley County 4-H Program assistant; Matt Murdoch, Schley-Marion County Extension coordinator; and Cara Thornton, a Marion County educator.

They all want to say a very special thank you to Avery Haynes of Marion County for driving the bus.

Georgia’s 4-H campers, from fifth-12th grades, have five different locations throughout the state. There is a summer camp for everyone. For more information,  ontact your local Extension Office.
