PRESTON — Samuel Christopher “Shag” Shannon, age 69, of Preston, died at his residence Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019. A native of Preston, he was born July 24, 1950, in Americus, the son of the late William Rodney and Kattie Shannon. He worked for the Webster County water system for 35 years and was a member of the Webster County Fire Department for 47 years where 30 of those years were as the fire chief. Mr. Shannon was an avid fisherman, hunter, woodworker, and enjoyed small engine repairs. He was a devoted family man who loved his family, his God, and his church — a kind and gentle individual who never met a stranger and was very patient.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike McGlaun and the Rev. Raymond Smith officiating.
