Only one race develops for city council
By Beth Alston AMERICUS — Qualifying for the Nov. 5 election was Monday through noon Wednesday this week and there is only one contended race for city council. Incumbents Juanita Wilson, District 1; Nelson Brown, District 2; Daryl R. Dowdell, District 6, all qualified Monday. Mark Meadows also qualified to run in District 6. Qualifying in the city of Leslie was held Monday through Thursday of this week. All incumbents qualified as follows: Matthew Daniel as mayor, and Clint Ledger, Diana Roberts, Jane Abernathy, and Billy Deriso as city council members. The city of Leslie will not hold an election in conjunction with the Nov. 5 election. In Plains, incumbents Wade Medlock (Post 3) and A.B. Jackson (Post 5) qualified, as did Kim Fuller who was appointed last year to fill the unexpired term of Jill Stuckey who was named superintendent of the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site earlier this year.
