ELLAVILLE, Ga. — Christine Works Mauldin, age 82, of Ellaville, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2019, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at First Baptist Church, Americus, Ga. The Rev. Keith Parks and the Rev. Bryan Mauldin will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville.
Mrs. Mauldin was born on Oct. 11, 1936, in her grandmother’s house outside of Amory, Miss. She was the daughter of the late G.B. and Maxcine Works. Mrs. Mauldin was raised in Hueytown, Ala., and graduated from Hueytown High School.
Chris served as a Southern Baptist pastor’s wife for almost 30 years in Texas, Alabama, and Georgia. She served on several associational committees and led in the areas of music, WMU, Vacation Bible School, and children’s ministry.
Chris Mauldin was appointed in 1991, along with her husband, Dr. Kenneth Mauldin, as International Mission Board missionaries to Guyana, South America. She served alongside her husband for 10 years working in areas of home and family life, children’s ministry, music, women’s missions coordination, and church planting. They retired as Emeritus Missionaries in 2001.
Mrs. Mauldin and her husband traveled on various short-term mission trips and spent several months in Russia in 2003. In October 2003, she was elected to a five-year term as a trustee with the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries.
Chris’ hobbies included, arts and crafts, flower gardening, music, and leading “Cousins’ Camp” with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Christine Mauldin was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Kenneth Mauldin; an infant twin sister, Ernestine Works; and a brother, Gloice Works.
She is survived by three sons: Randy (Lynn) Mauldin of Phenix City, Ala.; Rusty (Michele) Mauldin of Ellaville; and Ron (Cindy) Mauldin of Canton, Ga. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Kacy (Alex) Robinson of Orlando, Fla; Kelsey (Tre’) Appleby of Katy, Texas; Miles (Jennifer) Mauldin of Pittsview, Ala.; Bryan (Samantha) Mauldin of Hazlehurst, Ga.; Kayla Mauldin of Benbrook, Texas; Zachary Mauldin of Houston, Texas; Rachael (Brian) Bonner of Crestview, Fla.; Carissa Mauldin of Ellaville; and one great-grandson, Jude Mauldin of Hazlehurst, Ga. Chris is also survived by two sisters: Myra (Tommy) Gill of Midland, Ga., and Bonnie (Al) Gardner of Cherry Log, Ga. Special thanks to her care givers: Marlene Deem, Bonnie Layfield, Dorothy Davis, Porsha Ingram, and many friends from First Baptist Church, Americus.
