Sumter Fire & Rescue to host Open House Saturday

AMERICUS — Just in time to welcome the new fire chief, Jerry Harmon, Sumter County Fire & Rescue will host at Open House from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at its training facility at 719 Brickyard Road (intersection of Brickyard Road and Ga. Highway 27 East). The event Saturday will also serve as the dedication ceremony of the new training facility. Open to the community, the event will include tours of the burn building, a speed dressing competition, and public education opportunities, as well as other demonstrations.
Things kick off at 10 a.m. when the doors open. The flag and flag pole dedication is at 10:30 a.m. A speed dressing competition for firefighters is at 11:30 a.m., followed by a free lunch.
At 12:30 p.m. there will be a live fire demonstration in the burn building. The open house ends at 1 p.m.
Other activities and attractions include free food and drinks sponsored by SERVPRO of Albany and Americus, a bounce house for the kids, cotton candy and snow cones, and a special appearance by Sparky the Fire Dog. The event is geared for the entire family to enjoy.
Chief Harmon said of the event, “I would like to encourage the community to come out and enjoy this fun and educational event. This event will give the citizens of Sumter County a chance to meet our local firefighters and get an up-close look at our department and our training division.”
