Schley County Boys win Marion County Invitational meet

BUENA VISTA, GA – The Schley County High School boy’s cross country team (SC) won the Marion County Invitational on Saturday, September 28, at Marion County High School in Buena Vista, GA.

The Wildcats finished the meet with just 30 points, followed by Brookstone (91), Jordan (112) and Americus-Sumter (ASHS) with 120 points. The Furlow Charter Falcons finished in ninth place with 208 points. Like golf, in the sport of cross country, the team with the fewest amount of points wins the team championship.

David Williams, who finished in second place in a time of 17:14.20, led the Wildcats. Rondravious Terry of ASHS finished in third place in a time of 18:24.90. Right behind Terry was Aaron Pinckard of SC. Pinckard finished in fourth place in a time of 18:28.30. His teammate, Dustin Howard, finished in sixth place with a time of 18:36.20.

Furlow Charter’s Edwin Gonzalez was the first FC Falcon to cross the finish line. Gonzalez finished in a time of 18:44.70. Jaylen Mable of ASHS was the next local runner to finish the race. Mable crossed the finish line in a time of 18:54.30. Right behind Mable came two SC athletes. John Lightner (19:04.70) and Daniel Iordanov (19:17.40) finished in 10th and 11th place respectively.

Roberto Duque of ASHS turned in a strong performance, finishing 14th out of 110 runners in a time of 19:29.10. Two more Wildcats crossed the finish line in 16th and 17th place respectively. Peter Horton finished in a time of 19:38.30 and Tucker Welch crossed the finish line in a time of 19:42.80.

SC’s Dylan Abair finished in 29th place out of 110 runners in a time of 20:34, and Griffin Toms of SC finished in 33rd place with a time of 20:45.70. The Wildcats’ Eli Bacon turned in a solid performance with a time of 21:23.50 and Terrende Rush of ASHS finished in 48th place out of 110 runners in a time of 21:50.20.

The next local runner to cross the finish line was Andrew James of SC. James finished in a time of 22:47. FC’s Apollo Huss finished in the exact same time as James did, but James was ruled to have finished slightly ahead of Huss. Luke Pawlowski of SC was the next local runner to cross the finish line. Pawlowski finished in a time of 23:02.40.

Two more FC athletes turned in solid performances. Jordan Brown finished the race in a time of 25:30.90 and Gavin High crossed the line in a time of 26:00.10.

Other male athletes who turned in strong performances in the meet were SC’s Jayson Lin (27:57.90), FC’s David Lane (29:04.20), James Blaisdadell Ndaayezwi of ASHS (30:13.90) and James Shopendavis of ASHS (37:38).

In middle school boys’ action, Christopher McGrady of FC finished in fourth place in a time of 12:56.70. The next local athlete to cross the finish line was Caleb Renfroe of Schley County Middle School (SCMS). Renfroe finished in 35th place out of 74 runners in a time of 15:34. Renfroe’s teammate, Hunter Hardage, finished in the same exact time, but Renfroe was deemed to have crossed the line slightly ahead of Hardage. Zachary Almeida of FC finished in a time of 17:26. His teammate, Chandler Lyles, wasn’t too far behind. Lyles finished in a time of 17:55.10.

The next local runners to finish were both from SCMS. Kyle Duprey finished in a time of 18:47.20 and his teammate, Owen Pawlowski, finished right behind Duprey in a time of 18:49.60. Jacob Howard of SCMS was the next local runner to cross. Howard finished in a time of 19:33. FC’s Heath Holloway also turned in a solid performance, as he finished in a time of 20:11.60.

In varsity girl’s action, Grace Hardage of SC had the best finish of all the local female athletes. Hardage finished the race in a time of 23:47.50. Her teammate, Maria Zamora, finished in 20th place out of 60 runners. Zamora crossed the finish line in a time of 27:51.10.

Selliyah Owens of ASHS turned in the next best finish among the local runners. Owens crossed the line in a time of 28:35.30. Her teammate, Emely Jimenez, finished two spots behind in a time of 29:07.40. Kaia MacLennan of SC turned in a strong showing by finishing in a time of 30:49.20 and Teigan Pepito of ASHS finished in a time of 32:53.

Finishing right behind Pepito was FC’s Litzy Lepiz. Lepiz finished in a time of 32:54.40. Lepiz’s teammate, Talana Holloway, finished two spots behind in a time of 33:27.20. Rebecca White of FC also finished the race strong. White finished in a time of 42:29.50.

In middle school girl’s action, FC’s Paige Drinnon had the best finish of the local athletes. Drinnon finished in 16th place out of 59 runners in a time of 15:30. Mallory Crenshaw of SCMS also finished strong. Crenshaw finished the race in a time of 27:05.20.
