An investment Sumter can’t refuse
The Americus Solar farm project in our county can represent the lion’s share of new Georgia solar farms approved this year. The Public Service Commission has required Georgia Power to accept an additional 2200 Megawatts. This particular project in our home county can potentially get half of it! This amazing investment will be one the largest ever made in Sumter County, and will provide electricity for 250 thousand homes.
Today, many industries are exploring every feasible possibility to make their operations more environmentally sustainable. Locating new plants near this solar farm would be a priority. Since this incentive will already be in place, little to no tax breaks would be expected. With new industry coming to the county, the demand for housing will increase and property values should increase significantly.
In recent weeks, we have seen millions of children throughout the world marching every single Friday demanding that adults protect the earth they will inherit from further human damage. This is a positive step in that direction. I urge Sumter County to approve this project.
