Americus – Richard “Ricky” Lynn Burgess, age 63, of Americus, died at his residence Tuesday, October 8, 2019. A native of Americus, he was born August 11, 1956 to the late Richard and Annette Burgess. Ricky was a member of First Baptist Church of Americus where he was a Deacon and past chairman of the Deacons. He was a proud father and grandfather, a 1974 graduate of Southland Academy, and worked part time for WISK/WDEC radio for over 45 years. Ricky was the long-time radio voice of the Southland Raiders and GSW Hurricanes and a member of Georgia Southwestern Hall of Fame. He enjoyed playing golf, visiting with his coaching buddies, and eating out with his friends.

Services will be held Friday, October 11, 2019 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Parks officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 10, 2019 at the family residence from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to GSW Athletics,800 GSW State University Drive, Americus, GA, 31709,  Southland Academy, 123 Southland Rd., Americus, GA  31709 or First Baptist Church, 221 S. Lee St., Americus, GA  31709.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Denise Holloway Burgess of Americus; a daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Micah Simpson of Birmingham, AL; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Hollie Burgess of Americus; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jerry McCrary of Hiawassee; four grandchildren, Daniel Simpson, Nathan Simpson, Walker Burgess, with the fourth grandson due in March; and several nieces and nephews.
