Lady Jets open GCAA play with win over Lady Titans

MACON, GA – The South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) women’s basketball team opened up Georgia Collegiate Athletic Conference (GCAA) play with a 76-53 win over Central Georgia Tech (CGTC) on Wednesday, November 13, in Macon, GA.
SGTC freshman center Femme Sikuzani, posted a double double with 16 points and 20 rebounds. Two other Lady Jets scored in double figures. Sophomore forward Yasriyah Wazeerud-Din poured in 13 points and sophomore forward Oumy Gueye chipped in 11 points in the winning cause.
Transfer sophomore Shamari Tyson scored nine points and dished out eight assists. The Fort Wayne, IN native also hauled down four rebounds and tallied three steals.
“It’s always good to get a conference win and Central Georgia Technical College is always ready when you travel to Macon to play them in their gym. They are a very physical team,” SGTC head coach James Frey said.
The Lady Jets started off slowly and the Lady Titans had the lead three times in the first quarter. However, SGTC was able to open up an 18-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Both teams scored 19 points each in the second quarter, but the Lady Jets maintained a 37-26 lead at the half.
SGTC came out strong in the third quarter and expanded their lead to 59-36 by the quarter’s end. Both teams scored 17 points each in the final quarter, but the Lady Jets were able to come out on top with the 76-53 win.
With the win, the Lady Jets improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the GCAA. They will be looking for their third consecutive win when they host GCAA opponent Andrew College at the Hanger on Saturday, November 16, at 5 p.m.
