Four Schley County wrestlers advance to state tournament

BREMEN, GA – It was a great day for the Schley County Wildcat varsity wrestling team, as four Wildcats: Jacob Long, Dywon Hamilton, Brandon Collins and Tamia Kelley, qualified for the upcoming GHSA Class A-Public State Wrestling Tournament by virtue of their performances in the sectional tournament held at Bremen High School in Bremen, GA on Friday and Saturday, February 7-8.

In the 285-lb. Weight Class, junior Dywon Hamilton, who finished in first place at last week’s Area Tournament, qualified for the state tournament by finishing in third place in his weight class. Hamilton’s classmate, junior Jacob Long, turned in a fifth-place finish in the sectional tournament in the 220-lb. Weight Class. By virtue of his performance, Long will also be going to the state tournament.

Senior Brandon Collins booked his ticket to the state tournament by finishing in sixth place in the 195-lb. Weight Class and senior Tamia Kelley, the only female wrestler on the Wildcats’ squad, finished in first place in the 122-lb. Weight Class.

The GHSA Class A-Public State Wrestling Tournament will be held Thursday through Saturday, February 13-15, at the Macon Centerplex in Macon, GA.

While they didn’t qualify for the state tournament, junior Aaron Pinckard and freshman Bradley Dean both finished in seventh place in the 113-lb. and 106-lb. Weight Classes respectively and they are both alternates for the state tournament.
