Number of COVID-19 cases in Sumter rises to 334 with 20 deaths

AMERICUS – According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, the number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Sumter County has risen to 334 and the number of Coronavirus-related fatalities in the county has risen to 20.

The GDPH announced these statistics at approximate 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21.

Sumter County currently ranks ninth in the state out of 159 counties for the most number of confirmed cases. The GDPH reports that Lee County currently has 277 confirmed cases with 17 deaths and Schley County is reported to have 16 confirmed cases with one death.

Dougherty County is reported to have a total of 1,456 confirmed COVID-19 cases: the third most of any county in Georgia. Dougherty also has sustained the most COVID-19 related deaths of any County in Georgia with 103 fatalities.
