Mr. James Alvin Varnum Sr. age 86 of Americus passed away Monday, April 27, 2020

at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A private graveside service will be held Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Robert Kelly will officiate.

 Mr. Varnum was born April 10, 1934 in Smithville. He was the son of the late Arthur Alvin Varnum and the late Daisy Lee Harden Varnum. He worked as a mechanic for James Chevrolet in Americus for 30 years and later was a self-employed mechanic.

He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church in Americus.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Jane Rigsby (Leon) of Ellaville and Sharon Polk (Shelby) of Americus. Two sons and a daughter-in-law James Alvin Varnum Jr. (Linda) and Danny Varnum of Andersonville. Ten grandchildren Charlene Luke (Michael), Krystal Belmont (Dave), Chris Rigsby (Kayreen), Michelle Rigsby, Heather Richards, Carl Varnum, Michael Varnum, Wayne Varnum, Holly Varnum and Adam Varnum. Fourteen Great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

 Mr. Varnum was preceded in death by his wife Edith Johnson Varnum, a son Carl Douglas Varnum; two sisters Martha Pratt and Betty King Crutchfield; and four brothers Otto Varnum, Arthur Lee Varnum, Donald Varnum and Wayne Varnum.
