AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University men’s soccer team surrendered three goals on Saturday night falling to Lander University, 3-1, in a Peach Belt Conference match at Hurricane Field.

The Bearcats took the lead early when Christian Hatley scored the first of his two goals within the first eight minutes of the match. Then in the 17th minute, Hatley scored his second goal of the contest to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead.

The rest of the first half was a back and forth chess match and no goals were scored. The Bearcats carried the lead and the momentum at the end of the half.

Just when it could not get any worse for the Hurricanes, a third Bearcat goal by Rob Dymond destroyed any momentum GSW had left.

GSW Junior Forward Andres Melendez scored his second goal of the season, which avoided a Hurricanes shutout.

GSW will close out the regular season with a road trip to Morrow, GA to take on 16th-ranked Clayton State at 3 p.m. on Saturday from Laker Field.
