Striking Gold; Lady Hurricanes rout Albany State

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University women’s basketball team struck gold on Thursday night in a 78-36 rout of Albany State University in the Storm Dome.

The Lady Hurricanes had three players score in double figures. Lexi McCully scored a team-high 12 points, adding two assists, and hauled in three rebounds. McCully scored in double digits for the third consecutive game. Destiny Garrett added 11 points. She was a force on defense with four steals and chipped in three rebounds. Shane’ Jackson had a career-best 10 points and was perfect from the field, connecting on all five of her shot attempts.

GSW outscored ASU 26-5 in the third quarter to match the largest margin in a quarter (21 points) in program history. The Lady Hurricanes also allowed the second-fewest points in a game this season and third-lowest total in program history. The average margin of victory over GSW’s current three-game winning streak is 39.7 points. GSW also extended its winning streak against the Golden Rams to nine consecutive games.

The Lady Hurricanes will be on the road to face off against Savannah State University (3-1) at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
