AMERICUS – Glenn Martin Bryant of Americus has been hired as a Custodial Worker on the Americus campus, announced South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. He will report to Maintenance Director Jeff Wiseman and Vice President of Campus Operations/Adult Education/WIOA Karen Werling.

Glenn Bryant is the third generation of his family to work at South Georgia Technical College.  Both of his parents, Alonzo and Virginia Bryant worked at South Georgia Technical College and his grandfather O.L. Bryant and his grandmother Dora Carter were long-time employees of South Georgia Tech.

“You might say this is a family tradition,” laughed Glenn Bryant.  “After I started working here and walked into the cafeteria, I felt like I was home.  As a little boy, I used to come to the cafeteria with my grandfather. Even though it had been a number of years, I still felt his presence.”

Bryant came to South Georgia Technical College after retiring from Signify Cooper Lighting, Inc.  He had been there for 40 years and five months.  Bryant laughed and said he had been working all of his life.  He also worked at Winn Dixie and Austin Urethane before joining Cooper Lighting.

As a custodial worker, Bryant will be performing a variety of duties to assist with the proper care of South Georgia Technical College’s building and facilities such as cleaning, providing supplies, moving furniture, setting up chairs, tables, podiums, etc., for special events and college functions, maintaining tools and equipment for the position and other duties as assigned.

In addition to his strong work ethic, Bryant also serves as a Pastor.  He is the Pastor of Green Grove Baptist Church in Smithville on the first Sunday of each month.  He pastors Greater New Lebanon in Plains on the second and fourth Sunday’s and is the Pastor of County Line Baptist Church in Leslie and preaches there on the third Sunday of each month.

He is married to Deborah Ann Bryant and they have four grown children, three boys and one girl and 12 grandchildren.
