AMERICUS – The South Georgia Technical College 8th annual “Light Up Your Future” Drive-Thru event was a huge success again with nearly 1,000 individuals riding around the SGTC campus in cars, vans, and trucks to see the Holiday Lights and kick off the Christmas season.

“We love the creativity of the displays!” said one visitor, while others bragged on culinary arts, the thousands of lights, the sweet and kind people who sang the lovely songs, and the overall interaction with all of the individuals.

The “Light Up Your Future” event has become a yearly tradition for many families and thousands of light-up gifts and individually wrapped goods were distributed as community members and families toured the campus to see each program area highlighted in Christmas lights.

“Merry Christmas” and “Thank you so much for hosting this again” were some of the comments shared as individuals toured the lighted campus.  Lots of laughter could be heard and smiles seen as the individuals drove through the campus with Christmas music playing provided by WISK-FM and from the different displays.

Another visitor was amazed at all the options for education available right here in Sumter County.  And one person added, my 17-year old son was with us and trying to decide on what to do when he graduated next year.  It was very helpful to show what all SGTC offered.

As participants drove through the campus they were able to vote for their favorite displays electronically using a QR code from their cell phones.  Individuals were also amazed at how big the Americus campus really is and how many different programs are offered by the college.  Others thanked South Georgia Tech for putting on such a good lighted display and said it reflected the type of community that we have where people give back and enjoy fellowshipping with each other.

Nearly 300 different vehicles encircled the campus during the “Light Up Your Future” drive thru event and most of the vehicles were packed with individuals of all ages.  “This really helps get me in the Christmas Spirit,” said one individual.  Another pointed out that “it is wonderful to see how many good paying careers can be found from an education right here in Sumter County!  And right now, all of these occupations are in high demand.”
