Hurricanes extend win streak to three by defeating Middle Georgia State

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University men’s basketball team (GSW) extended its winning streak to three games by defeating Middle Georgia State 69-60 Thursday afternoon in the Storm Dome in front of hundreds of students on Sumter County Schools Day.

Three GSW players scored in double figures. JaKwon Moore scored a career high 20 points, shot over 50 percent from the field and hauled in 11 rebounds, earning his first career double-double. Jalen Johnson also had a solid performance. He scored 14 points, shot 50 percent from the field, hauled in three rebounds and collected four steals. Christian Koonce added 12 points and four rebounds in a solid performance.

Bryce Turner was a force inside, as he scored six points, but his 20 rebound performance helped the Hurricanes secure the victory over the Knights. It was his first career double rebound game.

Georgia Southwestern (5-1) will be on the road, as they take on Albany State (4-3) for the second time this season. GSW won the first game 84-75 on November 20th and will be looking for the sweep at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
