ELLAVILLE – After three quarters of play, the game between the Schley County Wildcats (SCHS) and the Eagles of Sherwood Christian Academy (SCA) was still up for grabs, with the Wildcats leading 44-40. However, in the fourth quarter, SCHS erupted with an 18-4 run and went on to win by the score of 62-44 on Tuesday, December 12, at Schley County High School.
“At halftime, I told the guys that we can’t allow one person to beat us,” SCHS Head Coach Roderick Martin said. “We made the necessary defensive adjustments and we came out with a win.”
Jordan Hudson led the Wildcats in scoring with 18 points and Christian Moses poured in 12. Both Tyrese Cook and Jalan Solomon almost hit the double digit scoring column, as both of them scored eight points in the winning cause.
The Eagles quickly jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game before Jordan Hudson hit a short jumper, was fouled and completed the three-point play to cut the Wildcats’ deficit to five. This was the beginning of an 8-0 run by SCHS.
Shortly thereafter, Tyrese Cook hit a three-pointer to give the Wildcats an 11-10 lead. The Wildcats got punched in the mouth early, but responded to get themselves back in the game.
Over the next few minutes, however, the Eagles outscored the Wildcats and by the end of the first quarter, SCA led 20-16.
SCHS was able to cut its deficit to 22-21 before Alex Harris drained a three-pointer to put SCA up by four, but the Wildcats responded with a 7-4 run and only trailed the Eagles 29-28 at the half.
SCHS went on a 5-0 run to start the third quarter, but the Eagles responded with a 4-0 run of their own to tie the game at 33-33. Throughout the third quarter, both teams were trading baskets and both teams were playing solid defense, but by the end of the quarter, the Wildcats had a 44-40 lead.
Over the first couple of minutes of the fourth quarter, the Wildcats went on a 4-0 run that was capped off by a basket from Christian Moses, giving the Wildcats a 48-40 lead. Over the next couple of minutes, both teams traded baskets, but thanks to a free throw and a basket off a steal by Amir Nelson, the Wildcats were able to take a 53-44 lead with under four minutes to go in the game.
A few minutes later, SCHS would get a three-pointer by Lance Jordan and take a 59-44 lead. This was all part of an 18-4 run in the fourth quarter and it led to a 62-44 victory for SCHS.
Alex Harris led SCA in scoring with 25 points.
The Wildcats (3-0) will host Chattahoochee County on Friday, December 15, at 7:30 p.m.
