AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University women’s basketball team received votes in this week’s NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released today by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The Lady Hurricanes return to the poll for the first time this winter after spending 14 weeks inside the Top 25 during the 2022-23 season.

GSW is off to a 6-1 start and currently ranks ninth in DII in rebounding margin (+11.7), 12th in scoring margin (+21) and 13th in scoring defense, holding opponents to 53.9 points per game. First-year head coach Hana Haden led the reload of talent with only four players returning from the 2022-23 team that reached as high as No. 8 in the rankings on two occasions during a historic run culminating with the school’s first-ever trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division II national tournament. The Lady Hurricanes have a balanced attack on offense this year with only one player averaging in double figures for scoring and seven players posting between 7.6 and 9.6 points per game.

GSW is on a holiday break until Dec. 30 when they’ll play their final non-conference game of the regular season against Tusculum University in the Storm Dome at 2 p.m. Peach Belt Conference play begins Jan. 3.
