Samsung’s SA Solar Farm Application Approval Now Moving Forward Improving Sumter County’s Tax Base

Sumter County, Georgia, December 20, 2023.

Please congratulate and welcome our new solar company, SA Solar. As solar projects keep flocking to the county, Sumter County is poised to become a state leader in solar energy!

Many years of planning and work have been put in to prepare this 200-megawatt project for completion.
The project met all conditions and requirements for use and addressed citizen concerns, earning a majority vote from the Sumter County commissioners. “In addition to meeting general requirements, “said Rusty Warner, executive director of the Sumter Development Authority, “special considerations will be given to the immediate area by SA Solar, including pollinator-friendly grasses and larger tree buffers.”

The project is being developed by Samsung C&T America, Inc., which has been active in solar development in the United States since 2010. “SA Solar is grateful to the Sumter County Commission for the approval of our conditional use permit application. We appreciated the collaboration amongst all parties, including the citizens of Sumter County and Sustainable Sumter, in achieving this project milestone. The project anticipates construction to begin in 2025 and we look forward to commercial operations in 2026/2027, if the project is awarded a power offtake contract from Georgia Power,” said EJ Kim, SA Solar Project Manager. SA Solar is a 200MW solar project located on 1,400 acres of land seven miles south of Americus.

As a $200 million project, SA Solar will expand the county tax base and provide opportunity for new local jobs during construction and operation. SA Solar’s upcoming project is expected to create two to three full-time jobs and approximately 200 indirect jobs during construction. These jobs will significantly impact local restaurants, hotels, and retail businesses in the Americus area, leading to an increase in tax revenue. “This solar project is a testament to SA Solar/Samsung C&T America, Inc. and Sumter County’s commitment to green, clean, and
environmentally friendly solar energy,” said Warner.
