James “Jim” Walton Shirah passed away at home on January 13, 2024.

Jim was born on October 4, 1946 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After serving his country in the Army National Guard, Jim attended Louisiana State University and was a lifelong avid LSU fan. It was there in Baton Rouge where he met his beloved wife, Sharon Stanley Shirah. Life took them back to their Shirah roots in Georgia. This is where Jim spent the rest of his life and ultimately retired in Dooly county and Americus, Georgia.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon Shirah, his sister, Alice Shirah Dobyns of Austin, Texas, his three daughters, Alice Parker, Sherry Shirah, Tiffany Farr, as well as his four grandchildren.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Mattie H. Marshall Center Employee Recognition. A fund is currently being set up. The family wants to recognize the hard workers of the Mattie Marshall center who work around the clock to care for patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
