AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University women’s basketball team (GSW) earned its fourth consecutive Peach Belt Conference win by defeating in state rival Augusta University 74-56 Saturday evening in the Storm Dome. GSW improves to 8-1 at home this season.
Kayla Langley led the way with 18 points, as she connected on five of her nine shots and made eight of her nine shots from the charity stripe. Langley also added nine rebounds with a steal and a block. She has tallied double-digit points in four games this season.
Jashanti Simmons continued her fantastic season by scoring 13 points. Simmons was successful on six of her 10 shot attempts and she collected nine boards, two assists and three steals. Simmons has scored in double figures in 11 games this season. This was the ninth consecutive game that she has finished in double figures.
Ndidiamaka Ndukwe recorded her sixth double-digit performance of the season, as she scored 11 points. Ndukwe was successful on six of her eight shot attempts with six rebounds and an assist.
The final Lady Hurricane to amass double-digit points was Destiny Garrett, who earned 10 points as she made four of her six shot attempts, along with an assist and four rebounds.
The Jaguars carried the early momentum at the end of the first quarter, outscoring the Lady Hurricanes 18-16. The Lady Hurricanes buckled down and took charge the rest of the game and the Jaguars did not have an answer for them.
GSW has won five straight games against the Lady Jaguars.
The Lady Hurricanes (12-2, 5-1 PBC) will start a two game road trip, as they face off against North Georgia (11-5, 4-2 PBC) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Convocation Center.
