GSW Baseball Team loses series with USC Beaufort

BEAUFORT, SC – The Georgia Southwestern State University Baseball Team (GSW) lost two of three games against the University of South Carolina Beaufort over the weekend. The Hurricanes won Game 1 by the score of 25-1, but fell to the Sand Sharks in games two and three by the scores of 6-5 and 7-6.

In Game 1 on Saturday, the Hurricanes scored 25 runs on 21 hits. Noah Roberts led the way by going 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Jake Blinstrub went 3 for 5 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored and Kalvin Alexander went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored.

Nick McCollum started on the mound for the Hurricanes and ended up getting the win (4-0). In six innings of work, McCollum gave up a run on five hits, walked one batter and struck out three.

In Game 2, the game went 10 innings, with the Hurricanes losing 6-5. Both Blinstrub and Brant Deerman went 2 for 4 at the plate. Blinstrub scored twice and Deerman scored a run and drove in another. In total, the Hurricanes scored five runs on eight hits and committed two errors, while the Sand Sharks scored six runs on six hits and committed four errors.

In Game 3, the Hurricanes lost another one-run game, falling to the Sand Sharks by the score of 7-6. Corey Lee led the GSW offense by going 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Brant Deerman went 2 for 2 and scored two runs and Kalvin Alexander went 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

Grant Adams ended up taking the loss for the Hurricanes. In a little over two innings of relief, Adams gave up a run on two hits with five strikeouts.

The Hurricanes (13-5, 1-2 PBC) will make the trip down US Highway 19 on Wednesday to take on the Golden Rams of Albany State. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
