ELLAVILLE – The Schley County Wildcats (SCHS) scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning and they took advantage of two walks and an error in the inning. This set the tone for the rest of the game, as the Wildcats would go on to win 10-0 over Chattahoochee County (CHATTCO) in a run-ruled, rain-soaked affair.

“I love how we jumped out quick and scored a lot of runs,” SCHS Head Coach Chuck Cheek said. “We got a little complacent there in the middle innings, but our pitching was good. Our defense was good. The biggest thing was we were trying to beat the rain. You hate starting a game when there’s a chance of rain and we really thought we had about 30 more minutes, but I guess its better than trying to push games back later in the season and everything gets log jammed. That’s (CHATTCO) a pretty decent team. They beat Taylor the other night. They beat Marion. We were both tied for first place so that was a good win for us.”

Jay Kanazawa led the Wildcats’ offense by going 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored and Jake Little went 1 for 2 with a run scored. The Wildcats were also able to take advantage of eight CHATTCO errors.

SCHS used three pitchers in this game. Ashton Raybon got the start on the mound and earned the win. He gave up one hit, walked one batter and struck out another in three innings of work. Trenton Stubbs came on in relief of Raybon and gave up no hits with a walk. Jack Clark was the final pitcher used by SCHS. He came on in relief of Stubbs and gave up no hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

After their six run explosion in the first inning, the Wildcats scored a run in the second, two runs in the third and a run in the fifth to complete the 10-0 shutout.

SCHS (9-1) will host Webster County on Tuesday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m.
