Sumter County boys and girls tennis teams split with Fitzgerald

AMERICUS – The Sumter County boys and girls tennis teams were able to earn a split with Fitzgerald. The Panthers earned a 4-1 team victory, but the Lady Panthers lost 4-1.

With the win, the Panthers improve to 10-3 overall and they are 2-3 in region competition. The Lady Panthers are 6-7 overall and they are winless in region competition at 0-5.

In girls’ action, Georgia Wooden fell in straight sets to Ashley Braddy 5-7, 0-6 and T’Meia Shootes lost to Alissa Gamble in straight sets 5-7, 3-6.

The lone win for the Lady Panthers came when Lauren Harris defeated Bella Bryant in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

In girls’ doubles action, the Lady Panthers’ duo of Carolyn Campbell and Autumn Bryant lost to the FHS duo of Karlee Gamble and Madison Stone in straight sets 2-6, 3-6 and the SCHS doubles team of Sydney Griffin and Aniyah Eberhardt lost in straight sets to the FHS duo of Miley Young and Molli Cleghorn 4-6, 4-6.

In boys’ action, Chandler Lyles, the Panthers’ #1 singles player, lost a hard-fought match to Weston House 6-3, 2-6, 3-10. Willie Burts was able to earn a hard-fought victory over Jesse Tucker 5-7, 6-3, 10-1 and Jayden Wooden defeated Angel Hernandez in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead.

The Panthers were able to secure the team victory when the doubles duo of Eric Bryant and Devor Pina defeated the FHS duo of Anthony Lewis and Isaac Mills in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. The other SCHS duo of Jacorey Wright and Chris Ingram defeated the FHS doubles team of Braydon Tucker and Jesse Florez in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to secure the 4-1 team victory.
